形态特征

栖息于大型河流、湖泊和水库的深水区，偏好沙质或泥质底部。肉食性，以鱼类、甲壳类、软体动物和水生昆虫为食。白天活动，常在水中伏击猎物。繁殖季为旱季（11月至次年2月），雌龟在河岸沙地产卵，每窝产卵10-30枚，卵径约3-4 cm。孵化期约60-90天，幼龟出壳后自行返回水体。

主要威胁包括：河流筑坝导致栖息地破碎化和产卵沙岸消失；水体污染；过度捕捞（食用和龟壳贸易）；渔网误捕。虽然印度国内已列入保护名录，且CITES附录I禁止国际商业贸易，但实际执法困难。建议加强栖息地保护、建立保护区、推广社区参与的监测和反盗猎行动。
