形态特征
最大直甲长雄性19.7厘米，雌性23.8厘米（亚种间有差异）。背甲扁平，呈棕色至暗褐色，腹甲黄色具暗色斑纹。头部具清晰的鳞片，颚部钩状。
生态习性
栖息于湖泊、河流和沼泽地带，尤其偏好静水环境。杂食性，以水生无脊椎动物、两栖类、鱼类及植物为食。繁殖期在雨季产卵，每窝约6-14枚。
主要威胁与保护
整体种群数量较为稳定，但局部面临栖息地丧失、水污染和捕捞压力。部分亚种分布区受农业扩张影响。目前多个保护区覆盖其分布范围。
自然分布与保护状态
分布于刚果（金）、肯尼亚、卢旺达、坦桑尼亚、乌干达。估计历史栖地占有面积（AOO）为79,575平方公里，出现范围（EOO）为315,368平方公里。IUCN 红色名录评估为无危（LC），TFTSG 暂定红色名录亦为无危（LC）。
